Spurgeon Gems on “Justice”

C H Spurgeon(It is) a wretched plight for a nation to be in when its justices know no justice, and its judges are devoid of judgment. - C.H. Spurgeon

Spurgeon Gems on “Politics”

C H SpurgeonEven in the pursuit of really good matters of policy, do you know any Christian man who goes into politics who is the better for it? If I find such a man, I will have him stuffed if I can, for I have never seen such a specimen yet. I will not say, do not attend to politics; but I do say, do not let them spot you. - C.H. Spurgeon

Spurgeon Gems on “Politics”

C H SpurgeonI long for the day when the precepts of the Christian religion shall be the rule among all classes of men, in all transactions. I often hear it said, “Do not bring religion into politics.” This is precisely where it ought to be brought, and set there in the face of all men as on a candlestick. I would have the Cabinet and the members of Parliament do the work of the nation as before the Lord, and I would have the nation, either in making war or peace, consider the matter by the light of righteousness. We are to deal with other nations about this or that upon the principles of the New Testament. - C.H. Spurgeon

Spurgeon Gems on “Satan”

C H SpurgeonHe has a way of making the worse appear the better reason; he can put bitter for sweet and sweet for bitter—make men believe that it is to their own advantage to do that which is causing their everlasting ruin. He can make men carry coals of fire in their bosoms, and dream that they shall not be burned; he can make them dance pon the brink of hell as though they were on the verge of heaven. Alas! fools that we re how readily do his lies prevail against us! - C.H. Spurgeon

Spurgeon Gems on “Satan”

C H SpurgeonA friend writes to me to enquire whether Satan knows our thoughts. Of course he does not, as God does. Satan pretty shrewdly guesses at them from our actions and our words, and perhaps even from manifestations upon our countenances; but it is the Lord alone who knows the thoughts of men immediately and by themselves. - C.H. Spurgeon

Spurgeon Gems on “Islam”

C H SpurgeonMohammedans’ religion might be sustained by scimitars, but Christians’ religion must be maintained by love.

He who religiously obeys Mahomet may yet be doing grievous moral wrong; but it is never so with the disciple of Jesus: obedience to Jesus is holiness. - C.H. Spurgeon

Spurgeon Gems on “Islam”

C H SpurgeonWhen Mahomet would charm the world into the belief that he was the prophet of God, the heaven he pictured was not at all the heaven of holiness and spirituality. His was a heaven of unbridled sensualism, where all the passions were to be enjoyed without let or hindrance for endless years. Such the heaven that sinful men would like; therefore, such the heaven that Mahomet painted for them, and promised to them. - C.H. Spurgeon

Spurgeon Gems on “Christ’s Return”

C H SpurgeonI am not given to prophesying, and I fear that the fixing of dates and periods has been exceedingly injurious to the whole system of premillenial teaching; but I think I clearly see in Scripture that the Lord Jesus will come—so far I go, and take my stand—that he will come personally to reign upon this earth. At his coming it appears clear to me that he will gather together the Jewish people, that Jerusalem shall become the metropolis of the new empire which shall then extend from pole to pole, from the river even to the ends of the earth. - C.H. Spurgeon

Spurgeon Gems on “Satan”

C H SpurgeonA more artful plan still was that by which the devil’s servants, the demons that were cast out of possessed persons, called Jesus the Son of God. He rebuked them because he did not want any testimony from them. No doubt the devil thought it a very cunning thing to praise the Saviour, because then the Saviour’s friends would begin to be suspicious of him, if he was praised by the devil. - C.H. Spurgeon
