When some men come to die, the religion which they themselves have thought out and invented will yield them no more confidence than the religion of the Roman Catholic sculptor who, on his death-bed, was visited by his priest. The priest said, “You are now departing out of this life;” and holding up a beautiful crucifix, he cried, “Behold your God, who died for you.” “Alas!” said the sculptor, “I made it.” There was no comfort for him in the work of his own hands; and there will be no comfort in a religion of one’s own devising. That which was created in the brain cannot yield comfort to the heart. - C. H. Spurgeon

From Tony Perkins’ Washington Update:
A reprint from today’s Family Research Council news bulletin on the ongoing activist federal courts who insist in making law and not interpreting law, usurping the responsibility of Congress, as it was ordained by our Founding Fathers in our Constitution.
The Supreme Court on Monday, as expected, refused to reconsider its controversial ruling expanding the power of local governments to seize private property for economic development under the guise of "eminent domain." The ruling reminds me of the words of former President Ronald Reagan, who said, "Man is not free unless government is limited . . . as government expands liberty contracts." Refusing to take the Court’s power grab lying down, lawmakers in over 28 states have introduced more than 70 pieces of legislation to thwart potential abuses. Legislators in Texas, Florida, Oklahoma, New Jersey and Michigan are mobilizing to support state constitutional amendments prohibiting the use of eminent domain for private development.

The California Supreme Court ruled yesterday in three cases that the court is the final arbitrators of parental rights and that judges, not biology, define parents. The cases, all involving lesbian couples, dealt with a request for child support by a non-biological partner, a petition to establish parental rights for an egg donor, and a ruling that one lesbian partner should be listed as the "father" on a child’s birth certificate. The court actually declared, "We see no reason why both parents of a child cannot be women." The fact that it is biologically impossible seems not to matter.

Radio KYW 1060 New Bulletin!!!
Harvard scientists announced they’ve discovered a way to fuse adult skin cells with embryonic stem cells, a promising and dramatic breakthrough that could lead to the creation of useful stem cells without first having to create and destroy human embryos.
Preliminary results of the potentially groundbreaking research were disclosed Sunday on the Science Magazine web site.
The scientists said they were able to show in their early research that the fused cell “was reprogrammed to its embryonic state.”
“If future experiments indicate that this reprogrammed state is retained after removing the embryonic stem cell DNA — currently a formidable technical hurdle — the hybrid cells could theoretically be used to produce embryonic stem cells lines that are tailored to individual patients without the need to create and destroy human embryos,” said a summary of the research reported on the Science site.

If judges ever were to have a Hippocratic Oath similar to what doctors use, I would hope they would use the Latin phrase "Ius dicere non Ius dare," which loosely translated means "interpret laws not make laws."

Counterfeit Revival written by Hank Hanegraaff

While multitudes clamor for a massive revival, what the body of Christ desperately needs is a mighty reformation. Only as the church is reformed will the culture be revived. The real experience is not found I the works of FLESH, rather it is found in the basic fundamentals. First the body of Christ must rediscover the joy of genuine worship through a passion for prayer, praise, and the proclamation of the WORD. (Page 17, Counterfeit Revival)
Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits, whether they are of God; because many false prophets have gone out into the world. By this you know the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesses that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is of God, and every spirit that does not confess that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is not of God. And this is the spirit of the Antichrist, which you have heard was coming, and is now already in the world (1 John 4:1-3 NKJV)
Satan is a master counterfeiter. Rather than presenting evil in its naked deformity, he masquerades as an angel of enlightenment. He wants people to encounter him and think they are in touch with the living God. His ultimate deception is a counterfeit revival. And “Counterfeit Revival” exposes this deception.

A great many learned men are defending the gospel; no doubt it is a very proper and right thing to do, yet I always notice that, when there are most books of that kind, it is because the gospel itself is not being preached. Suppose a number of persons were to take it into their heads that they had to defend a lion, a full-grown king of beasts! There he is in the cage, and here come all the soldiers of the army to fight for him. Well, I should suggest to them, if they would not object, and feel that it was humbling to them, that they should kindly stand back, and open the door, and let the lion out! I believe that would be the best way of defending him, for he would take care of himself; and the best “apology” for the gospel is to let the gospel out. - C. H. Spurgeon

Ashamed of the Gospel by John F. MacArthur Jr.
John MacArthur’s “Ashamed of the Gospel” is thought-provoking on the biblical views of the seeker sensitive movement. It is sadly unfortunate that this book had to be written, but the truth about the state of today’s churches is must read for all concerned Christians.
Many of today’s church services are not teaching the true gospel of Jesus or good Christian doctrine. Instead, many of the churches are more concerned with pragmatism. Pragmatism ignores doctrine and focuses more on achieving success than on communicating God’s word unashamedly.
Pragmatism theology is killing the true church! John MacArthur’s well documented “Ashamed of the Gospel” exposes this deadly theology. Tragically, this theology emphasizes church growth over church doctrine. And many mega churches boast of their success by the size of their congregations.

Finding Peace In Life’s Storms by C. H. Spurgeon
Review by Walt Dimmock
I have read many bits and pieces of the works and have listened to many of the sermons by the Prince of Preachers, Charles H. Spurgeon. But, this is the first book by Spurgeon that I have been able to read from cover to cover with enthusiasm. I was impressed by his easy understood teachings of God’s gift of hope. Charles Spurgeon writes with strong encouragement that will help strengthen your walk with Christ. And, you will have the assurance of personally weathering all storms and of your salvation.
Spurgeon uses vivid allegories and metaphors that help to make his point, are the trademark of his easily understood teachings. For example, he writes about the anchor of your soul that keeps you from getting “shipwreck” in life’s storms. A ship does not need an anchor when in calm waters. However, in storms or when approaching shoreline, the anchor is used to steady and control the ship from deadly danger, else you become shipwrecked. He equates the anchor of our soul to the everlasting truths of the word.
"Thanks to the anchor, or rather to the God who gave it to you, no storm has overwhelmed you. Your ship is under way for the port of Glory” (Page 40)

Baptist Press

ATLANTA (BP)–Karen Pressley has heard it all before.
The talk of space aliens having come to earth a millennia ago, the authoritative worldview, the buffed movie star glibly handing out solutions to personal conflicts.
Movie star Tom Cruise may be spouting the truth according to the Church of Scientology these days, but Pressley has lived in that world longer than Cruise and knows firsthand the nightmare it entails.
“Tom Cruise is doing exactly what Scientology leaders want him to do,” Pressley says. “He’s a celebrity and considered to be a shaper of public opinion and he makes a good spokesman for the organization. Scientology primarily targets the ‘movers and shakers’ in society in order to influence others.”
Such high-profile personalities -– including Priscilla Presley and Lisa Marie Presley, actors Kirstie Alley and Patrick Swayze, TV personality Greta Van Susteren and musicians Chick Corea and Isaac Hayes -– “add a degree of respectability that breaks down any resistance listeners may have,” Pressley says.
She knows well of what she speaks. For 17 years -– nearly half of her life -– she was involved with the cult. Nine of those years she served at the group’s international headquarters located in a remote part of the California desert outside Palm Springs.
